Bipartisan Criticism and Renewed Questions about Political Ethics Sparked by Ads

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and a campaign ad built around Dr. Amy Acton’s childhood has pulled Ohio’s governor’s race into a national debate over where political scrutiny ends. Republican Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign aired the ad featuring Acton’s estranged mother, drawing criticism from Gov. Mike DeWine and other Republicans while President Trump and Vice President JD Vance defended the campaign. The ad was off the air by Oct. 29. DWN’s editorial staff steps back from the controversy to ask what voters still need to know about each candidate’s record and plans for housing, schools, health care and jobs.

DJs at the Polls brings Dayton funk to 18 voting sites

Voters at Thurgood Marshall High School on Tuesday may hear Zapp, Lakeside and the Ohio Players on the way to the sign-in table, with DJ Pretty Boy Troy spinning from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. It’s one of 18 Dayton sites planned for DJs at the Polls, a nonpartisan effort that pays local DJs, with other stops including Dunbar High School, Louise Troy Elementary, St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and Northwest Metro Library. Troy, who came to the area to study at Wilberforce University, wants his set to point people toward Dayton’s history. Final DJ assignments weren’t confirmed at press time, so check djsatthepolls.org.

A DJ at a site doesn’t make it your polling place, so verify yours at montgomery.boe.ohio.gov.

Real Estate

More than a Home

❝

Homeownership remains one of the strongest paths to family wealth, but rising costs, limited savings and financing hurdles keep many Dayton families from getting started. In a new piece marking Economic Development & Housing America Month, the Greater Dayton Realtist Association connects stable housing to thriving local businesses and neighborhood investment. The association points to financial education on credit, budgeting and mortgages as a first step for buyers, and to estate planning and accurate property records as ways current owners can protect what they’ve built. Nothing Between Us

Nothing seen or unseen can ever stop me,
From believing in Your love, so faithfully.
With devotion and faith, I’ll follow Your way,
Your wonderful grace will guide me each day.

Through stormy weather and skies of blue,
No matter the season, I’ll stay close to you.
Your everlasting love, so faithful and true,
Gives me the strength to keep trusting You.

Nothing between us can tear us apart,
For Your love lives forever deep in my heart.
I’ll never lose the love You give from above,
For nothing can separate me from Your love.

When my journey on earth finally ends,
I pray in Your kingdom my soul will ascend.
To live in Your presence in heaven above,
Forever with You, surrounded by love.
