BEFORE YOU VOTE
WHAT ISSUE 3 ACTUALLY CHANGES

Ohio has required a photo ID to vote in person since 2023, so Issue 3 is not a new voter ID law. It asks whether that rule should be written into the Ohio Constitution, where only voters could change it. Publisher RoShawn Winburn lays out what counts as valid ID today, who backs the amendment and who opposes it, and why the rest of your ballot deserves the same attention: the Dayton Public Schools levy, three court races most voters skip, and an open Ohio House seat covering Huber Heights, Vandalia and Englewood. Absentee ballot applications must reach the Board of Elections by 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27.

WEST DAYTON HOSPITAL: THE MONEY MOVES, THE BOARD WAITS
On Oct. 14, Dayton city commissioners voted 4-0, with one abstention, to have the Montgomery County auditor collect the hospital levy voters approved last November and to request an advance on 2027 collections. The 1-mill levy is expected to raise about $19 million over 10 years, which coalition members call seed money to attract larger state, federal and private dollars. The 11-member board that will guide the hospital still has not been named, and commissioners say they are waiting on Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss's list of appointees. Residents can follow agendas at daytonohio.gov and speak at commission meetings at City Hall, 101 W. Third St.

BEFORE YOUTUBE, WILLIAM PACE BUILT HIS OWN SHOW
In the late 1980s, Dayton TV stations kept telling William Pace to bring them an advertiser first. So the West Side native and Wilberforce University graduate started his own production company, sold the ads himself and handed the stations a check. Thirty-eight years later, The William Pace Show has more than 3,000 episodes, including a five-minute intermission interview with B.B. King, and Pace is paying out of his own pocket to save them from aging tape. His story raises a question for all of us: who is keeping Black Dayton's history before it fades?

A Final Note
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE LIE
A lie has been spoken, a tale of deceit,
By a man who would steal your soul and defeat.
He twists the truth to lead you astray,
So guard your heart and watch what you say.
Honor the elders, for the wisdom they hold,
Their stories are priceless, their lessons are gold.
Don’t believe everything you hear,
For lies can be disguised as sincere.
When fear surrounds you and troubles draw near,
Stay close to God, for His love conquers fear.
Many have fallen, and many have tried,
To turn away from God and leave Him aside.
Your friends aren’t always the friends that they seem,
Some lead you away from your purpose and dream.
Choose those who guide you toward truth and the light,
They'll stand by your side and help you do right.
Money itself is not the root of all evil,
But foolish men use it to deceive people.
They hide behind wealth, letting greed be their guide,
While truth and compassion are cast to the side.
So seek God’s wisdom, let truth make you strong,
Discern what is right and reject what is wrong.
For riches will fade, and deception will fall,
But God’s truth stands forever, the greatest of all.
Until next time,

Stay Informed. Stay Engaged. Build Together.
